The Wave of the Future: Dream Marketing

In the middle of last night, my husband sat bolt upright, left our apartment, and returned with a fountain drink of the delicious lemon-lime soda Squirt. He told me all about the dream he’d just had in which he craved the soda, went to the corner store for it, and enjoyed it only to awake soda-less and disappointed. Naturally, he immediately went to the corner store to rectify this deficiency. I was cranky because he’d woken me up, so I went back to sleep and continued dreaming about Avatar and becoming the governor of Washington.

It wasn’t until I was getting ready for work this morning that I realized what was really happening. The people at Squirt have clearly mastered the technology for dream marketing. You may call me crazy, but I ask you this: When was the last time you saw a commercial on TV or online for Squirt? Exactly. And what better way to make people buy your product than to make them think it was their idea in the first place?

He wasn’t the only one affected, either! I’ve only seen Avatar a couple of times, though never in the theater. It was a fun, beautiful space opera, but I wasn’t impressed enough to buy it. After dreaming about it, I now feel compelled to go get it because I want to watch it again. Dream marketing!

Clearly, Washington now wants me to run for governor. Who am I to refuse the puppet masters?
